Former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has rejected reports of divisions within the 'Bodu Badhalu' reform movement, saying the group remains united and committed to its political objectives.

Fayyaz addressed the reports in a post on X on Saturday, explaining that the WhatsApp group referenced in recent media coverage was not an official platform of the movement.

He said he left the group around three weeks ago.

He reaffirmed his intention to continue working with former President Mohamed Nasheed to implement the reforms outlined in the 'Bodu Badhalu' manifesto, saying their efforts would continue until the movement's objectives are achieved.

The developments follow renewed speculation about disagreements within the group after Fayyaz's departure from the WhatsApp group.

Some reports linked the issue to calls from members for Nasheed to contest the 2028 presidential election.

Nasheed has previously backed Fayyaz as the MDP's preferred candidate for the 2028 presidential race.

The two leaders announced their political direction at a joint press conference in April, where they called for broad systemic reforms in the Maldives.

The 'Bodu Badhalu' agenda includes proposed constitutional changes to the country's governance structure, alongside measures focused on economic transformation and other institutional reforms.

Nasheed was elected MDP chairperson in June, adding further significance to the group's political direction ahead of the next presidential election.

Fayyaz's latest statement seeks to downplay reports of a split and emphasizes that the movement's broader reform agenda remains unchanged.
