The High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to the Maldives, Jagannath Sami, has officially presented his Letter of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

The newly appointed High Commissioner was welcomed through the traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, before formally presenting his credentials to the President.

President Dr. Muizzu accepted the Letter of Credence and officially welcomed Jagannath Sami as Fiji’s High Commissioner to the Maldives.

Following the ceremony, the President and the High Commissioner held discussions on strengthening cooperation between the two island nations.

The talks focused on expanding collaboration in key areas, including tourism, climate action, sustainable development, and other areas of mutual interest.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening bilateral relations and working together on shared priorities at regional and international platforms.

The Maldives and Fiji, both Small Island Developing States, share common interests in addressing challenges related to climate change, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations since 15 March 1988, with cooperation continuing across various fields over the decades.
