Elections Commission (EC) member Hassan Zakariyya says the long-standing issue of people being registered with political parties without their knowledge has been resolved through the integration of the party membership system with the national e-Faas digital identity platform.

Speaking on PSM, Zakariyya said one of the most significant improvements made following consultations with political parties was the modernization of the party membership registry.

He noted that the introduction of the Simedha Online portal made managing political party records more efficient and streamlined.

Despite those improvements, the Commission continued to receive complaints from individuals who discovered they had been registered as members of political parties without their consent.

Zakariyya explained that the main challenge stemmed from the inability to reliably verify membership forms submitted by political parties, particularly given the large number of applications received nationwide.

To address the issue, the EC integrated both party registration and resignation procedures with the e-Faas system, allowing all applications to be securely authenticated through digital identity verification.

Zakariyya also noted that party members who wish to resign can now complete the process directly through e-Faas, making it easier for individuals to manage their political affiliations while ensuring greater transparency and accountability in the electoral system.
