Maldivian and Bangladeshi national arrested with over 3 kilograms of drugs
Two individuals have been arrested after police seized more than three kilograms of suspected narcotics during a coordinated anti-drug operation carried out in Malé and Hulhumalé.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the operation was conducted on July 6 through a joint effort by the Drug Enforcement Department and the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence unit as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution.
The suspects were identified as 44-year-old Maldivian national Fathuhu Adam Hassanfulhu and 31-year-old Bangladeshi national Shah Altabur Rahman.
Both were taken into custody on suspicion of trafficking and distributing illegal drugs.
Fathuhu was arrested in April this year in connection with alleged drug possession, use, and distribution after officers recovered approximately 38 grams of a substance suspected to be narcotics.
Following their arrest, both suspects were presented before the court, which ordered them to be remanded in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.
The Maldives Police Service said investigations into the case remain ongoing as officers work to determine the origin and intended destination of the seized drugs, as well as identify any individuals connected to the alleged trafficking operation.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to disrupting drug trafficking networks, stating that anti-narcotics operations continue to be carried out across the country as part of broader efforts to reduce the impact of illegal drugs on communities.
