Drug crisis solution remains top priority: Minister Ihusaan
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has called on the Maldives Police Service to intensify its fight against illegal drugs, describing the country's drug problem as the biggest threat to national security and stability.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for the 42nd Police Initial Training Course at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, Ihusaan said drug abuse has destroyed lives, affected families, and continues to fuel organized crime across the country.
The most significant mission we have entrusted to the Maldives Police Service, one that demands the strongest resolve and must be successfully accomplished is to safeguard the Maldives from the plague of drugs,
the Minister stated
The minister said the police have made significant progress in combating narcotics over the past two and a half years.
He also expressed confidence that the efforts of newly recruited officers would help deliver the long-term solution the public expects before the end of the current presidential term.
Minister Ihusaan also warned that criminal activity is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with offenders using technology for financial transactions, cyber fraud, and money laundering through digital currencies.
He said officers must continue developing their skills through modern education and specialized training to keep pace with these evolving threats.
The minister stressed that the public's trust is the most valuable asset a police officer can have and urged officers to carry out their duties with honesty, integrity, and humility.
The day their integrity is compromised is the day they forfeit the right to wear the police uniform,
The Minister said
He concluded by encouraging officers to uphold the law fairly and remain committed to protecting the country and its people.
