Pay harmonization will improve efficiency and growth: President Dr. Muizzu
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the government's pay harmonization and rightsizing initiatives are key reforms aimed at strengthening the economy, improving workplace standards, and increasing efficiency across state-owned enterprises.
Speaking during a press briefing at the President's Office, President Dr. Muizzu said the main goal of pay harmonization is to improve employees' take-home pay while promoting a stronger work ethic and supporting long-term economic growth.
He said the initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to reinforce the national economy.
The President noted that some cases require individual review during the implementation of the new pay structure and said the relevant authorities have been instructed to assess those situations separately.
He also said rightsizing state-owned enterprises is intended to ensure organizations have staffing levels that match their operational needs.
According to the President, the process is designed to improve professional standards, reduce unnecessary spending, and increase institutional efficiency.
President Dr. Muizzu said the reforms are being implemented fairly and transparently, adding that the process leaves no room for claims of politically motivated dismissals or unfair treatment.
The President also reiterated that reducing the country's financial pressures remains a priority, emphasizing that repaying external debt continues to be one of the government's key objectives because of its direct impact on the economy and the wellbeing of citizens.
He concluded by reaffirming the administration's commitment to maintaining long-term economic stability and continuing reforms aimed at building a stronger and more resilient economy.
