The Maldives and Kazakhstan inked an agreement on air transportation.

Both countries signed an agreement on the sidelines of the 41st General Assembly of ICAO in Montreal, Canada. The agreement was signed by Transport Minister Aishath Nahula and behalf of the Maldivian government while Talgat Lastayev, the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development signed the agreement on behalf of the Kazakhstan government.

The signed agreement will enable the operation of code-share services by airlines from each party.

Prior to the agreement, the government of Maldives had announced that 30-day on-arrival visas are being issued to Maldivians starting last month and those travelling for longer than 30 days would obtain a visa in advance prior to their departure.

Editor Note
This is the first time both countries sign an agreement. Kazakhstan remains of the key countries for tourist arrivals to the Maldives. This is a landmark agreement that would help the Maldivian tourist industry.
