The Government of Japan has officially handed over a facial recognition system to the Maldives, providing a technological boost to the country's border management and immigration services.

The handover ceremony was held at the MACL Corporate Hall, where Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, formally presented the system to Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan.

The ceremony was attended by Controller General of Immigration Ahmed Faseeh, senior Immigration officials, and representatives of the Japanese government.

According to officials, the new facial recognition system is expected to strengthen border security measures by improving identity verification processes and supporting more efficient passenger screening.

The technology will assist Maldives Immigration in enhancing operational efficiency at entry and exit points while helping authorities manage increasing passenger movements more effectively.

The donation reflects the continued cooperation between the Maldives and Japan and supports ongoing efforts to modernize immigration services through advanced technology.

Authorities said the system will contribute to stronger border management capabilities while improving the overall travel experience through faster and more reliable passenger processing.
