President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Adam Shareef Umar and Thoriq Ibrahim as the Maldives' new ambassadors to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, respectively.

The appointments were formalized during a ceremony at the President’s Office, where President Dr. Muizzu presented Letters of Credence to both diplomats ahead of their overseas postings.

Adam Shareef Umar has been appointed Ambassador to the State of Qatar.

He previously served as Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works in the current administration and has held several Cabinet and senior foreign service positions throughout his public career.

Thoriq Ibrahim has been appointed Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Before taking up the diplomatic role, he served as Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and has held a number of ministerial and senior government positions in previous administrations.

The appointments follow parliamentary approval granted during a sitting held on June 15.

Lawmakers endorsed both nominations before they were formally confirmed by the President.

As ambassadors, Adam Shareef Umar and Thoriq Ibrahim will represent the Maldives in two of its key regional partners.

Qatar and the United Arab Emirates maintain close diplomatic, economic, and development ties with the Maldives, making the appointments significant for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
