Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported two new measles cases in the Maldives over the past week, bringing the total number of confirmed infections this year to 22.

In an update shared on X, the HPA said both of the newly identified cases were recorded in the Greater Malé region.

The agency’s latest figures show that the majority of infections reported so far this year involve Maldivian nationals, while a significant number of cases have also been recorded among individuals aged over 18.

Previous data released by the HPA showed that 489 contacts had been identified in connection with the outbreak, with 88 active contacts currently under surveillance as part of ongoing monitoring efforts.

The agency said efforts are continuing to vaccinate contacts who have not completed the recommended two-dose measles vaccination regimen.

According to the HPA, 220 contacts have been vaccinated so far.

As part of broader measures to contain the outbreak, the HPA has also launched a targeted vaccination campaign focused on children who have not completed their doses.

In addition, 1,118 healthcare professionals have been vaccinated as part of the preventive response.

Health authorities have continued to monitor the situation closely while urging the completion of measles vaccinations to reduce the risk of further transmission.
