Government joins global condemnation of Gulf Region attacks
Maldives has joined international condemnation of recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and critical facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government described the attacks as a clear breach of national sovereignty and warned that such incidents pose a serious risk to peace and stability in the Gulf region.
Maldives expressed strong solidarity with the governments and people of Bahrain and Kuwait, reiterating its support for measures taken to protect their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security.
The statement also stressed that attacks on civilian infrastructure constitute violations of international law and place innocent civilians at risk amid ongoing regional tensions.
The government further urged all parties involved to avoid escalation and prioritise diplomatic engagement as the primary means of resolving disputes and reducing regional instability.
The statement comes amid reports of renewed hostilities in the region.
Kuwait’s international airport was temporarily shutdown following a strike that reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries, marking one of the most serious incidents since a ceasefire agreement came into effect in April.
Authorities in Kuwait reported damage to several locations, including diplomatic premises, while Bahrain confirmed it had intercepted multiple missiles and drones during the attacks.
The incidents have raised concerns over the durability of the ceasefire, which had largely held despite sporadic violations in recent weeks.
