Government pushes digital transformation of national health insurance
The ongoing digitalization of the national health insurance system is expected to significantly improve the speed and efficiency of healthcare services, according to Aasandha Company Limited Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya.
Speaking during a television program, Zeeniya said the majority of service delays are caused by manual administrative procedures, including the processing of physical documents and maintenance of paper-based records.
She noted that digitalization is expected to significantly reduce these delays and improve overall efficiency.
As part of wider reforms, the government recently transferred several social welfare services from the National Social Protection Agency to Aasandha Company Limited, bringing a number of healthcare-related assistance programs under a single administration.
To support the transition, authorities have launched the My Aasandha Portal, allowing patients and authorized representatives to access services, submit applications, and complete required procedures through eFaas authentication.
The platform also provides information on medical assistance schemes offered by various government institutions.
The reforms are aimed at strengthening the country's healthcare support system, improving oversight, and reducing opportunities for misuse while making services more accessible to the public.
The digitalization initiative comes as healthcare expenditure under Aasandha continues to rise, driven by increasing costs associated with imported medicines and long-term treatment for chronic illnesses.
