HPA confirms seven measles cases and 74 contacts in Maldives
The Health Protection Agency(HPA) has confirmed seven cases of measles in the Maldives so far this year, prompting intensified public health monitoring and response measures.
According to the agency, health officials are currently carrying out specialized containment procedures in line with established health protocols.
More than 74 individuals identified as close contacts of the confirmed cases have already been traced.
The HPA stated that investigations are ongoing to determine how the infections were acquired, while contact tracing efforts continue to identify and monitor individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
Vaccinations are also being administered to identified contacts as part of efforts to prevent further transmission.
Authorities noted that the confirmed cases include individuals who contracted measles overseas before entering the Maldives.
The development comes amid a broader global increase in measles outbreaks, including in several countries within the region, raising concerns among public health officials worldwide.
As a precaution, the HPA has advised members of the public to seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever accompanied by a red skin rash.
Although measles had previously been declared eliminated in the Maldives, health experts continue to stress the importance of vigilance due to the risk posed by imported cases and periodic re-emergence of the disease.
