MNU seminar marks six decades of strong Maldives–India partnership
The Faculty of Arts at The Maldives National University (MNU), in partnership with the Indian High Commission in the Maldives, hosted a commemorative seminar to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India.
The event brought together academics, students, diplomats, and invited guests, highlighting the enduring partnership and shared history between the two nations.
The seminar was attended by the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, G. Balasubramanian, who participated as the Chief Guest.
Proceedings began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, followed by a viewing of a curated photo exhibition reflecting milestones in Maldives–India relations.
A series of presentations explored key areas of bilateral cooperation developed over the past six decades.
Discussions covered climate change and sustainable development, cultural and historical connections, healthcare collaboration, food security, trade and economic growth, education, and infrastructure development.
Speakers and students emphasized the depth of cooperation between the two countries, underscoring the importance of strong people-to-people ties in strengthening diplomatic relations.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Balasubramanian reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and partnership shared between the Maldives and India.
The seminar concluded with a cultural segment showcasing both Maldivian and Indian performances, including traditional dances such as Boduberu and Fathi Gandu, presented by students.
Organisers noted that the seminar served as a platform to celebrate the historic ties between the two countries while promoting greater understanding of their ongoing cooperation across cultural, educational, and developmental sectors.
