President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that salary discrepancies linked to the National Pay Commission’s pay harmonization initiative will be addressed this month.

Speaking during a press briefing held at the President’s Office, the President stated that some employees in the civil service, particularly within the human resources and legal sectors, as well as certain council positions, had not benefited from the salary harmonisation exercise.

According to the President, the salaries of some affected employees had remained unchanged instead of increasing under the revised pay structure, he noted that the Pay Commission had assured the government that the issue would be resolved beginning in May.

President Dr Muizzu also stated that the Commission would continue reviewing similar concerns arising from the harmonization process to ensure remaining discrepancies are addressed.

During the briefing, the President also provided an update on “Operation Kurangi,” the administration’s nationwide initiative focused on addressing undocumented expatriates in the Maldives.

He said the operation was aimed at improving safety and accountability through proper identification and documentation rather than penalising expatriates.

The President noted that the issue had received insufficient attention in previous years, leaving many expatriates vulnerable to exploitation and irregular conditions.

According to the President, approximately 98 percent of expatriates currently residing in the Maldives have now been documented, the process included fingerprint registration and the collection of photo-based biometric data as part of efforts to strengthen monitoring and regularization.
