The Government of Maldives has condemned the recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian areas and critical infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, describing the incidents as a threat to regional peace and stability.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry following the attacks, the Maldivian government expressed concern over the escalation of tensions in the Gulf region and reaffirmed its support for the UAE’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The government also conveyed solidarity with the UAE and backed efforts undertaken to protect national security and maintain stability within the country.

Maldives further called on all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomatic engagement to prevent further deterioration of the security situation in the region.

The developments come shortly after a ceasefire announced by the United States in relation to its conflict with Iran.

Authorities in the UAE stated that drones and missiles allegedly launched from Iran had been intercepted and destroyed before causing wider damage.

Officials also reported that a fire had broken out at a power facility following the incident, though additional details were not disclosed.

Iranian military authorities have denied involvement in the attacks.

Several Arab nations in the region have meanwhile urged de-escalation, warning against renewed confrontation as tensions continue to remain high across the Gulf.

The latest incidents also coincide with a US-led operation focused on securing the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically significant shipping route.

Iranian officials have warned that the presence of foreign forces in the waterway could undermine the recently announced ceasefire arrangement.
