The Maldives Parliament has approved 14 ministers appointed after a recent Cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The approvals followed a review by the Parliament’s Government Oversight Committee, which evaluated and endorsed the nominees submitted by the President before forwarding them for parliamentary consent.

The Cabinet restructuring took place on April 14 and 15, reducing the number of ministries from 20 to 15.

As part of the process, 10 ministers stepped down, citing the need to allow greater flexibility for institutional reforms.

Subsequently, the President appointed five new ministers, while nine members of the previous Cabinet were reassigned to restructured portfolios.

In accordance with the Constitution, ministerial appointments made after Cabinet changes require approval from the People’s Majlis before assuming full legal authority.

Each nominee was approved through individual votes in Parliament.
