The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged the public to take precautionary measures as the Maldives experiences a period of elevated temperatures.

The advisory was issued via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting rising “feels-like” temperatures recorded across several regions.

According to available data, Kadhdhoo recorded the highest perceived temperature at 39.5°C, followed by Hanimaadhoo at 39°C. Kaadedhdhoo registered 37°C, while Gan in Addu City recorded approximately 37.4°C.

HPA warned that exposure to extreme heat can result in a range of health complications, including headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps, and exhaustion, as well as potential eye damage.

The agency also noted that physical signs of heat exposure may include sunburn, skin redness, blistering, and heat rashes.

The authority advised individuals experiencing such symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.

HPA further highlighted that certain groups face a higher risk of heat-related illnesses, including children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, those undergoing treatment for chronic conditions, and people working outdoors for prolonged periods under direct sunlight.

As part of its recommendations, the agency advised limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours, especially for children.

If going outside is necessary, individuals are encouraged to wear loose, breathable clothing and take appropriate precautions to minimise heat exposure.
