The Government of Japan has provided a set of disaster response equipment to the Maldives’ National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to respond to emergencies.

The equipment was officially handed over during a ceremony held at NDMA, where Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, presented the items to NDMA Chief Executive Hisan Hassan.

According to NDMA, the assistance is valued at approximately USD 4.30 million and was provided under Japan’s grant aid programme, the Economic and Social Development Programme.

The authority stated that the newly received equipment will play a key role in improving response efforts during flooding and fire-related incidents across the atolls.

NDMA also conveyed its appreciation to the Japanese government for its continued support in strengthening disaster management capabilities in the Maldives.
