The Maldives Police Service has stated that the hospitalisation of an individual during a rally organised by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on Tuesday night was not linked to police action.

The clarification comes after images circulated on social media alleging that the individual required medical treatment due to the use of tasers or electric batons during the protest.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, police acknowledged reports that a person from the protest area had been taken to hospital with injuries.

However, they stressed that there was no connection between law enforcement operations at the scene and the individual’s condition.

According to police, no force was used in managing the gathering, and the incident did not arise from any measures taken by officers present.

Authorities also cautioned that the spread of unverified information could undermine public trust in institutions and disrupt the effective delivery of services.

They urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it further.
