The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has removed Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim from two of the most influential parliamentary committees, according to updates published on the Parliament’s official website.

The changes came to light on Tuesday, although no formal announcement was made during the parliamentary sitting, which was presided over by Nazim himself.

According to the website, Nazim has been replaced on the Public Accounts Committee by Central Machangolhi MP Ahmed Xanmyr.

He has also been removed from the Security Services Committee commonly referred to as the 241 Committee and replaced by North Fuvahmulah MP Ahmed Abdulla.

Both committees are considered among the most powerful oversight bodies within the legislative assembly.

However, Nazim continues to serve on the State-Owned Enterprises Committee, as indicated on the Parliament’s website.

Giving information to some media outlets, Nazim said his removal from the two key committees was linked to his limited availability, noting that he has had to spend considerable time abroad due to both official responsibilities and personal commitments.
