Maldives Police reveal identities of two Indians arrested for drug smuggling
Authorities have disclosed the identities of two Indian nationals arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle more than one kilogram of narcotics into the Maldives.
The suspects have been identified as Jainab Wajid Ali, 25, and Mohammed Nawaz Dayatar, 21, both citizens of India.
According to the police, the two individuals had arrived in the Maldives from India and were handed over to law enforcement by the Maldives Customs Service after officials suspected them of attempting to import over one kilogram of illicit drugs into the country.
The suspects were later presented before the court to determine their remand status.
Following the hearing, the presiding judge ordered both individuals to be held in custody for five days while the investigation continues.
Police stated that further inquiries are currently underway in connection with the case.
In a separate incident earlier this month, on March 3, authorities arrested a Maldivian national along with two Indian nationals for allegedly attempting to smuggle 6.7 kilograms of narcotics into the Maldives.
