President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government, according to media reports.

Reports indicate that Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim administration formed following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024, has extended invitations to heads of state from 13 countries for the official ceremony.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a decisive victory in the general election held on Thursday, winning 209 out of 300 parliamentary seats.

The election marked the first national poll conducted since Sheikh Hasina’s removal from office last year.

The new cabinet is scheduled to take oath on Tuesday in the capital, Dhaka. Tarique Rahman, leader of the BNP, is expected to assume office as the next Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Countries reported to have received invitations to the ceremony include China, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, the Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan.
