Women in science are key to Maldives' future: President Dr. Muizzu

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that equal participation by women and girls forms the foundation of science serving humanity, marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by linking Maldives’ progress to empowering females in technical fields.

In his official message, the President stressed their vital role in tackling global challenges like climate resilience, health, energy, cybersecurity, and AI.

He outlined government initiatives to boost STEM engagement, including expanded higher education, technical-vocational training, scholarships, and new programs in engineering, ICT, marine science, health sciences, and emerging technologies.

Investments in research, digital skills, and education are creating pathways for young women nationwide.

The President reaffirmed commitment to dismantling barriers, enhancing access, and fostering a supportive ecosystem so every aspiring Maldivian girl can pursue science, lead, and drive national development.

On his 'X' account, he honored pioneering women scientists whose irreplaceable contributions in health and technology advance the nation, pledging to eliminate systemic obstacles based on passion alone.

Observed annually on 11 February by UN mandate, the day promotes full female participation in STEM and celebrates women’s scientific achievements.
