Aasandha clarifies eligibility for overseas medical treatment
Aasandha Company has stated that financial assistance for medical treatment abroad remains available under the national health insurance scheme, provided patients submit a valid doctor’s referral along with the required supporting documentation.
The clarification comes after family members of a young man injured in a road accident on November 11 took to social media, claiming they were unable to obtain Aasandha coverage for overseas surgery and were therefore appealing to the public for financial assistance.
The accident resulted in one fatality and left two others injured.
The family of one of the injured victims, Moosa Muzdhan Shareef, said they are seeking funds to cover the cost of specialised eye surgery overseas. According to the family, doctors have indicated that there is a possibility of restoring his vision through further surgical intervention.
However, they explained that their request for overseas treatment under Aasandha was not approved as the procedure is technically available within the Maldives.
Responding to the matter, Aasandha reiterated that overseas treatment assistance is provided strictly in accordance with established policies.
The company emphasised that patients must present an official referral from a medical professional, in addition to all relevant documents, for eligibility to be considered.
Under existing Aasandha regulations, financial coverage for treatment abroad is generally not granted if the required procedure or treatment is available and can be performed domestically.
