Emergency response equipment worth MVR 2.6 million has been donated to the Maldives Police Service through a joint initiative led by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Maldives.

According to NDMA, the assistance includes 2,064 items across five major categories.

The donation covers firefighting gear, pumps and electrical tools, marine rescue and safety equipment, medical emergency supplies, field operations tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The equipment was provided under the UNDP Funding Windows project, supported by the governments of Denmark, Luxembourg, and South Korea.

The project aims to strengthen the Maldives’ ability to adapt to climate change, integrate disaster risk reduction into development planning, and enhance national resilience.

A key focus of the initiative is improving the capacity of frontline responders to manage emergencies effectively.

UNDP noted that the donation forms part of broader efforts to reduce disaster risks across Maldivian islands, improve early warning systems, and reinforce disaster preparedness and response arrangements.
