The Maldives has once again invited applications from interested parties to operate commercial helicopter services across the country.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation announced that submissions will be accepted until January 26 next year, reopening the opportunity for operators following a similar call made in August 2023.

According to the Ministry, the tender aims to introduce helicopter operations for inter-island passenger travel as well as search and rescue missions.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to expand emergency response capabilities, including air ambulance services and to enhance connectivity for tourists.

The Ministry noted that the operator selected for tourist transport services will receive an exclusive 10-year agreement.

The decision to revive helicopter services was made on January 28, 2024, after Cabinet discussions on a proposal put forward by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

The plan aligns with the administration’s objectives of improving emergency mobility, strengthening national resilience during crises, and supporting growth in the tourism sector.
