Parliament Committee recommends suspension of CP Naveen and some other officers
Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to recommend the suspension of Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen along with several other senior officers, following corruption allegations linked to the Maldives Police Cooperative Society (POLCO) and related matters.
The decision was made during a closed-door committee sitting held today.
The recommendation stems from discussions conducted in confidential meetings held yesterday and today, though committee members have not disclosed specific details due to the private nature of the sessions.
Sources have indicated that a report addressing issues surrounding POLCO has been completed, and the committee has approved steps to address the concerns outlined in the document.
An audit report released earlier by the Auditor General’s Office revealed extensive corruption during the construction of the POLCO police flats. The audit found that awarding the project to POLCO led to expenditures exceeding MVR 1 billion, with the state incurring a loss of MVR 354.7 million due to mismanagement and corrupt practices within the company.
By the time of the audit, total spending on the project had reached MVR 1.06 billion.
