President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that ensuring the safety and protection of women and girls remains a central obligation of the government.

His remarks were issued on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed annually on 25 November to highlight the global impact of gender-based violence.

In a message posted on X, President Muizzu stressed that safeguarding women and girls from all forms of violence physical, emotional, or digital remains a national priority.

He said building a society where every individual feels secure is a fundamental responsibility of the state.

As we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we reiterate our commitment to protecting every woman and girl from any form of harm.It is our duty to create a society where safety and security are assured for all.

He noted that technological advancements have deepened daily connectivity but also increased exposure to online harassment and exploitation.

The President highlighted the need for focused action to mitigate emerging digital threats and to ensure new technologies serve to empower rather than endanger women and girls.

He emphasised that fostering a secure environment for women would translate into broader societal progress, adding that responsible adoption of new technologies must prioritise safety.

This year’s international theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen protections and promote empowerment in the digital sphere.
