The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued an advisory warning of widespread heavy rain, strong winds, and potentially rough seas across the country over the next three days, as the Maldives enters the monsoon transition period.

According to the MET Office, many regions are expected to receive continuous rainfall, with some islands likely experiencing thunderstorms.

Forecasters note that rapid weather fluctuations are common during the shift between the northeast Iruvai monsoon and the southwest Hulhangu monsoon.

Wind patterns will vary across the archipelago.

Northern atolls are forecast to see westerly to northwesterly winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour, while central and southern atolls will experience southwesterly to westerly winds ranging from 8 to 18 miles per hour.

Gusts may reach up to 35 miles per hour, increasing the risk of sudden intense conditions.

The MET Office added that seas are expected to remain moderately rough, becoming rougher during thunderstorms. Authorities advise seafarers especially those operating small vessels to remain cautious.

With transitional rainfall now active over several regions, the public is urged to stay updated on official forecasts and follow safety advisories as weather conditions continue to evolve.
