Foreign Ministry denies claims of Singapore Travel Advisory on Maldives

The Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed reports circulating on local media and social media platforms claiming that the Government of Singapore has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid traveling to the Maldives unless necessary. 

In a press release issued on Sunday, the Ministry confirmed that the Singaporean government has made no such statement in recent times and this has been confirmed by Singaporean government.

It clarified that the reports being circulated are not based on any current or official advisory and appear to be misleading.

The Government of Singapore has confirmed to the Ministry that it has not issued any such appeal regarding the Maldives in recent times. As such, the statement circulating on social media is not a recent appeal from the Singapore Government.

The Foreign Ministry further expressed concern that the spread of false information, especially involving countries that maintain strong and friendly relations with the Maldives, can have negative repercussions for both the public and the national economy.

The Ministry urged all individuals and media outlets to exercise caution and responsibility when disseminating news, particularly when it involves international partners.
