Digital initiative, Maldives 2.0 aims to eliminate corruption: President Dr. Muizzu
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the primary objective of Maldives 2.0, the government’s flagship digitalisation initiative, is to eradicate corruption by enhancing transparency and accountability across the public sector.
Speaking during the fifth episode of the "Rayyithunnaa Eku" (With the Citizens) podcast, President emphasised that the digital transformation will significantly limit opportunities for abuse of power and improve public access to information.
He noted that the initiative aims to create an integrated digital ecosystem connecting government bodies, service providers, and private sector institutions under a unified digital network.
The President also announced that the Maldives Digital Transformation Summit, scheduled to begin Friday evening, will officially launch the initiative.
A delegation of Estonian experts, including a key architect of Estonia’s own digitalisation success will participate in the event.
Estonia is serving as a key partner in the Maldives’ four-year transformation plan.
President revealed that a draft legislation to support the digital initiative is currently in development.
He also expressed appreciation for Estonia’s guidance and support, adding that the Maldives intends to complete in four years what Estonia achieved over 25 years.
According to him, Estonian experts believe this goal is achievable based on their own experience.
Highlighting the importance of change management and public engagement, President Muizzu said the success of Maldives 2.0 will depend on both technological advancement and societal readiness.
He further projected that by 2030, 15 percent of the country's production would stem from the digital economy.
