Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has confirmed the detection of Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) in critically ill newborns receiving care in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the hospital revealed that a few cases of MDRO, bacteria resistant to commonly used antibiotics had been identified among neonates in the NICU.

These organisms are often associated with healthcare settings, particularly in areas where severely ill patients are treated.

Hospital-acquired infections are a known risk in critical care settings, especially among vulnerable patient populations, Upon identification, immediate and rigorous infection control measures were implemented. The situation has been effectively contained, with no further transmission detected.
