Malaysian Prime Minister applauds President Dr. Muizzu’s stance on Israeli passport ban

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has lauded President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to amend Maldivian law to ban the entry of Israeli passport holders, expressing strong support for the Maldives' principled stance on the Palestinian issue.

Speaking at a joint press conference held following the signing of several bilateral agreements during President Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar praised President Dr. Muizzu’s bold and decisive actions.

He noted that both the government and the people of Malaysia highly respect and admire the President’s commitment to the Palestinian cause.

Prime Minister Anwar emphasized the alignment between Malaysia and the Maldives regarding the situation in Palestine, condemning the ongoing genocide.

We (Malaysia and Maldives) share the same sentiments and aspirations, and I have expressed, on behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, that we certainly accord him (the Maldives President) with high respect and accolades for his courage and principled stance

Prime Minister Anwar stated

During the press conference, President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' steadfast support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing their legitimate quest for statehood.

 President Dr. Muizzu stated

Palestinians deserve their own independent and sovereign state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital

He added

Prime Minister Anwar further stated that Malaysia does not recognize Israel as a state, citing its ongoing violations of human rights and international agreements.

He stressed that Malaysia’s position stems from Israel’s refusal to halt the ongoing genocide in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.

The Maldives officially enforced the ban on Israeli passport holders on April 15, 2025.
