Guesthouse tourism in Maldives reaches 25% of total arrivals this year
Maldivian tourism sector has recorded a notable increase in guesthouse stays, with 25.4% of international visitors choosing this type of accommodation so far this year, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
As of June 22, Maldives welcomed 569,119 tourists, marking a 5.1% increase compared to the 541,471 arrivals during the same period last year.
The statistics also highlight accommodation preferences among travelers.
A total of 144,645 tourists stayed in guesthouses, while 393,578 visitors opted for resorts.
Additionally, 16,445 tourists chose hotels, and 14,127 visitors stayed in safari lodges.
China emerged as the leading source market with 69,010 visitors, followed by Russia (59,636), the United Kingdom (57,944), Italy (53,252), and Germany (39,856).
The Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is actively promoting the Maldives as a premier tourist destination.
The agency has recently partnered with globally recognized sports clubs, including Liverpool Football Club in the English Premier League and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, to enhance the Maldives’ visibility on the international stage.
With 2 million tourists visiting the Maldives last year, the Ministry of Tourism has set an ambitious goal of attracting 2.2 million visitors by the end of this year.
