Shujaaiyah Hospital in Gaza restored with Maldivians and HDC support
The Shujaaiyah Hospital in northern Gaza has been renovated and reopened, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Maldivians and employees of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The hospital was among several healthcare facilities severely damaged during the ongoing Israeli genocide on Gaza, which has devastated the region’s healthcare system since October 7.
The extensive destruction left many hospitals inoperable, including Shujaaiyah Hospital, which served a crucial role in providing medical care to the local population.
With the support of HDC and the International Aid Campaign (IAC), along with contributions from Maldivians, the hospital has been restored to a functional state.
The reopening ceremony was attended by Dr. Maher Shamia, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health in North Gaza, who expressed gratitude to the IAC and the Al Khair organization in Gaza for their assistance.
Shujaaiyah Hospital serves more than 80,000 people in the region and operates as a fourth-tier medical center, offering essential healthcare services.
According to the IAC, the facility will now provide treatment for common and chronic illnesses, obstetric and pediatric care, vaccinations, and emergency medical services.
The restoration of the hospital is expected to enhance access to urgent medical care, particularly for those injured in the ongoing genocide.
