Pakistan navy ship 'Aslat' completes Maldives mission with joint maritime drill

The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Aslat has successfully concluded its goodwill visit to the Maldives, which took place from March 13 to 16, 2025.

The visit aimed to strengthen military and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Upon arrival at the Port of Malé, Aslat was warmly welcomed by the Defence Advisor of Pakistan and officials from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

During its stay, the ship’s Commanding Officer, Captain Muhammad Azhar Akram, met with key Maldivian officials, including Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Faisal Rasul Lodhi, the High Commissioner of Pakistan, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and the Commandant of the Coast Guard.

The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest and defence cooperation.

Captain Akram conveyed greetings from Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, to the Maldivian people and military leadership.

As part of its diplomatic engagement, Aslat hosted an Iftar and dinner reception on March 13, celebrating Pakistan’s culture and cuisine.

The event, attended by dignitaries and senior officials from the Maldives, included high-ranking government figures, parliamentarians, and ambassadors from various countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, the UK, and the USA.

MNDF personnel also visited the ship to exchange operational experiences and enhance interoperability between the two forces.

The visit concluded with a bilateral maritime exercise between Aslat and the Maldivian Coast Guard, further strengthening operational coordination and military relations.

The exercise underscored the deep-rooted strategic partnership between Pakistan and the Maldives in the realm of defence and security.

The visit of PNS Aslat reaffirms the commitment of both nations to enhancing regional security, fostering diplomatic ties, and promoting mutual cooperation in maritime operations.
