The government has officially annulled all immunity agreements with individuals implicated in the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

These agreements, previously established to secure cooperation in prosecuting the fraud and recovering stolen funds, have been terminated due to a lack of cooperation, according to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).

Among those impacted by the cancellation are former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and several officials linked to SOF, a company involved in the embezzlement.

The immunity agreement with Abdulla Ziyath, the former MMPRC Managing Director, had already been terminated in 2022.

Currently, immunity agreements remain active for the following individuals:

- Ahmed Adeeb

- Mohamed Allam Lateef

- Mohamed Hussain (Oitte)

- Ishfah Ali

The agreements aimed to facilitate the prosecution and recovery of funds embezzled in the MMPRC case, the largest corruption scandal in the nation's history.

However, the PG Office stated that the necessary cooperation from these individuals was not received, leading to the decision to annul the agreements.

The PG Office has requested the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to conduct further investigations and prepare cases for prosecution.

The MMPRC scandal, estimated at MVR 4 billion, involved significant sums of embezzled money being funneled through SOF, with some of its members now residing abroad.

Efforts to bring those responsible to justice and recover the stolen funds remain ongoing.
