USD 5 billion tourism revenue target set for next year: Minister Faisal
The Maldivian government is optimistic about achieving USD 5 billion in revenue from the tourism industry in 2025, according to Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal.
Speaking to reporters during a ceremony celebrating the arrival of the two-millionth tourist to the Maldives this year, Minister Faisal revealed that the tourism sector is projected to grow by 15% next year.
Highlighting the sector's resilience and growth, he emphasized the record-breaking milestones achieved in 2024.
He said that this year has been exceptional for the Maldives tourism industry and February alone saw 217,392 tourist arrivals, the highest monthly figure in our history.
The Maldives marked another significant milestone this year, welcoming two million tourists for the first time.
While Maldives celebrated 52nd anniversary of the tourism industry this year, tourism in Maldives began in 1972 with a single resort.
Today, the nation boasts 183 registered resorts among 1,277 operational tourist establishments, which include hotels, guesthouses, and safari vessels, collectively offering over 63,000 beds.
Maldives also won the award for the WTA World's Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year in 2024.
