President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldives Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, a decision announced today.

The presentation of Fuad’s credentials took place during a ceremony at the President’s Office on Monday morning.

Fuad’s appointment was approved by the Maldives Parliament on December 9.

Prior to his new role, Fuad served as the President of the Elections Commission (EC) until his term ended on November 23.

His nomination for the Ambassadorial position was submitted to Parliament on November 25, following his resignation from the EC.

As the longest-serving member of the Elections Commission, Fuad is highly regarded for his expertise and contributions to the Maldives' electoral system.

His tenure with the Commission began in 2008, during a transformative period when political parties were introduced, and the country held its first multi-party elections.

Fuad was appointed EC President in 2021 after the resignation of the previous chairman, Ahmed Shareef, and he completed the maximum two terms permitted by law.
