President Dr. Muizzu reopens renovated CHSE in Malé
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially reopened Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Malé, following recent renovations.
The reopening ceremony took place in a special event held in the evening, where President Dr. Muizzu received a commemorative memento honoring CHSE’s journey and legacy.
As part of the event, the President also joined a student-led forum with five participants who shared their hopes and aspirations for the nation’s future.
The reopening fulfills a pledge made by President Dr. Muizzu during the 45th anniversary celebration of CHSE last year, where he expressed the Government’s intent to restore higher secondary education services in the Malé ward.
This decision also supports the President’s broader promise to expand opportunities for students pursuing higher secondary education in the country.
In his remarks at the event, Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu expressed gratitude on behalf of the education sector, recognizing the President's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by many students commuting between Malé and Hulhumalé.
The Minister affirmed the Government's dedication to increasing access to higher secondary education, with the aim of enabling 2,000 students to pursue A Level studies following their O Level exams.
Centre for Higher Secondary Education, originally launched as the Science Education Centre (SEC) on July 3, 1979, began with only 47 students and 4 teachers, focused on preparing students for university studies abroad.
Over the decades, it has evolved significantly, currently serving more than 1,500 students with a faculty of 90 teachers.
CHSE-Malé reopened with a current enrollment of 424 students.
The school continues to uphold its high educational standards, contributing to national progress through its accomplished alumni.
