Jaaish and Ziva crowned best swimmers in Maldives’ largest inclusive competition for students with special needs

Top performers from EAD category

Moosa Jaaish Sanaullah Shakeeb from Aminiya School and Mariyam Ziva Zahid from Huravee School have been honored as the best swimmers in the largest sports competition for students with special needs in the Maldives.

The two students were awarded top honors in their category the BML 20th Interschool Swimming Competition, organized by the Swimming Association of Maldives and sponsored by the Bank of Maldives (BML).

The Interschool Swimming Competition, the most significant event for young swimmers in the Maldives, includes a special category for elite athletes with disabilities (EAD), ensuring that students with special needs can also participate and excel.

This inclusive competition highlights the talents of students who have overcome challenges to compete at the national level.

Other swimmers who got to top three ranks are: 

EAD Category - Girls:

  1. First Place: Mariyam Ziva Zahid (Huravee School)

  2. Second Place: Meral Hassan Khaleem (Dharumavantha School)

  3. Third Place:

     - Aishath Isra Adam (Imaduddin School)  

     - Aishath Laika Hussain (Aminiya School)

EAD Category - Boys:

  1. First Place: Moosa Jaaish Sanaullah Shakeeb (Aminiya School)

  2. Second Place:

     - Ahmed Dhaai Miruza (Thaajudhdheen School)  

     - Mohamed Shujau Ismail (Aminiya School)

  3. Third Place:

     - Akmal Shahudhee Abdul Ghanee (Imaduddin School)  

     - Limhan Hassan Madhy (Ghiyasuddin International School)

A total of 16 students from various schools competed in the EAD category, participating in several events, including the 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly, 50m freestyle, and 50m backstroke.

Training for students with special needs is regularly coordinated by swimming clubs, the Swimming Association of Maldives, Special Olympics, Paralympics, and parents.

Sessions are held at Hulhumale Swimming Pool and the Male’ Swimming Track, providing these students with opportunities to enhance their skills and compete.

The medal and trophy presentation ceremony was held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Hulhumale’ Swimming Pool.

Medals were presented by senior officials from the Bank of Maldives, including Head of Credit Aminath Shiba Zahir, Head of Branches and Service Center Hussain Rasheed, Head of Customer Service Fatima Maliha Jamal, and Director of Customer Service Gulnaz Mahir.
