The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has called for an immediate ban on Israeli passport holders entering the Maldives.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the party expressed its full support for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s initiative to amend the Immigration Act, which would prevent entry to anyone carrying an Israeli passport.

The PNC urged the Parliament to prioritize the swift passage of the proposed Immigration Amendment Bill, aligning the legislation with the wishes of the Maldivian people.

The party emphasized that it stands firmly behind the President’s decision, especially as it comes during a time when Israel has increased its atrocities against the Palestinian people and the Lebanese people.

With the PNC holding a supermajority in Parliament, the amendment to the Immigration Act is expected to be deliberated soon.
The changes would also impact foreign nationals holding Israeli passports, preventing their entry into the Maldives.

However, Attorney General Ahmed Usham has cautioned that the bill, as currently proposed, may lead to complications.

He highlighted the need for exemptions for individuals from other countries, including Arabs and Palestinians, who may carry Israeli passports despite not being Israeli citizens.
