President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has praised the Maldives' male and female surf athletes for their outstanding performance at the Asian Surfing Championship.

In a social media post made last night, President Dr Muizzu congratulated the national surf teams for their remarkable achievements.

This year marks the first time that surfing has been included as a competitive sport in the upcoming Asian Games.

The Maldivian athletes secured top positions in the ongoing Asian Surfing Championship, which serves as a qualification event for the Asian Games.

The championship is currently being held on Thulusdhoo Island in Kaafu Atoll, where 113 athletes from 20 countries are competing.

This is the second time the Maldives has hosted the prestigious event.

Thanks to their impressive performance, the Maldives has earned slots for the 2026 Asian Games in both the male and female surfing categories.

The Maldives’ men’s and women’s surf teams were ranked No. 1 in the South Asia region, with the men’s team securing 4th place overall in Asia.
