Minister Saeed advances trade talks with China

Minister of economic development and trade, Mohamed Saeed recently met with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao in a significant move aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties between the Maldives and China.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, involved reflections on the recent discussions between President Xi Jinping and Maldivian President Dr. Muizzu, focusing on avenues to enhance cooperation in these critical areas.

Minister Saeed took to social Media 'X' and expressed that it was a constructive meeting 

Had a constructive meeting with Minister of Commerce of PRC.Reflected on the meeting between President Xi Jingping & President Dr Muizzu & discussed options for deepening trade & investment co-operation between our two countries

he wrote 

Minister Saeed's engagements extended to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2024 in Dalian, China, where he participated in the opening ceremony.

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin, emphasized the significance of these discussions, stating,

I believe the meeting will help facilitate implementation of the important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and President Dr. Muizzu. Looking forward to more achievements of China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

She wrote on X

The discussions and subsequent statements underscored a shared commitment to deepening economic cooperation and strategic partnerships between the Maldives and China, setting a positive tone for future collaborations.
