Ambassador Wang underscored the strategic significance of direct flights between China and Malé, attributing their initiation to the high demand from Chinese tourists.

She expressed optimism about the future expansion of direct flight services between the two countries, citing the growing allure of Maldives as a paradise destination among Chinese travelers.

Adding to this development, Chongqing Airlines commenced direct flights to Maldives on Monday, operating flights every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

This marks the fourth Chinese airline to establish scheduled services to Maldives, joining Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Sichuan Airlines.

Previously, Xiamen Airlines had also conducted flights between the two countries in February.

Highlighting the tourism impact, recent reports indicate that Chinese tourists constitute the largest share of arrivals in Maldives, accounting for 11.6% of total tourist arrivals as of June 24th, with 115,031 visitors.

This surge underscores the robust tourism ties between China and Maldives, supported by increased direct flight connectivity and heightened interest in Maldives' scenic attractions.
