In response to mounting concerns over the increasing littering of Male' roads with garbage, Male' City Council has taken proactive measures by setting up a dedicated hotline.

Mayor Adam Azim announced the initiative via a post made today on X, urging the public to contribute to the effort by sending photos and videos of individuals dumping garbage on the streets to 9341144 via Viber or WhatsApp.

Additionally, citizens can lodge their complaints through the council's website.

The surge in waste disposal, including the dumping of old furniture and household items, on Male' streets post-Ramadan cleaning has raised alarm bells.

Despite collaborative efforts between Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) and Male' City Council to clear the streets, the problem persists unabated.

Male' City Council has vowed to take action against offenders, actively identifying those responsible for dumping garbage on the roads.

In a bid to curb the issue, the council has resorted to publicizing photos of individuals engaged in such unlawful activities.

Recent reports indicate that a staggering 30 tonnes of garbage were collected from Male' roads in a single day.

Law enforcement authorities, in collaboration with the council, are working to address the issue.

They have emphasized their joint efforts to advise and penalize those found littering the roads, including imposing fines and obligating offenders to clean up the trash they have discarded.

With a penalty of MVR 500 for dumping garbage on the streets, the authorities have already issued fines to over 100 individuals since February.

The concerted efforts of Male' City Council and law enforcement agencies aim to instill greater accountability and responsibility among citizens to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the capital's streets.
