In a recent statement posted on X, Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Ibrahim Gasim has called for an end to the alleged efforts to overthrow the current government, citing concerns over the destabilizing impact such actions could have on the nation.

Gasim's plea comes amidst reports suggesting that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been planning to oust the government, only two months after the majority of citizens elected Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as the new president.

Gasim emphasized that attempting to depose the president without justifiable reasons and going against the public's decision is deemed unacceptable.

The JP leader stressed the importance of adhering to democratic values, emphasizing that if a no-confidence vote is to be initiated for the president, it should be based on valid reasons rather than merely exploiting the majority in parliament for political turbulence.

Gasim expressed concern that such actions could lead to trouble within the nation, urging a more reasoned and democratic approach.

"I advise them to cease the process of attempting to depose the president without proper grounds," stated Gasim, emphasizing the need for a fair and justified assessment before considering any significant political changes.

Gasim concluded his post by acknowledging President Muizzu's efforts in working for the betterment of the country and its citizens.

He appealed to the parliament to allow the president to continue his governance for the progress and stability of the Maldives.
