China and UNDP jointly donate health sector goods to Maldives

China and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have collaborated in a joint effort to generously contribute a substantial quantity of medical equipment to the Maldives.

The medical equipment was donated during a special ceremony hosted at the Ministry of Health today. Wang Lixin, the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, presented the equipment to Ahmed Naseem, the Maldivian Minister of Health.

The equipment donated by China and UNDP to the Maldives aims to enhance the country's healthcare sector, bolster its capacity to combat COVID-19, and provide crucial care for respiratory and life-threatening illnesses within the Maldives.

The donated equipment will be utilized by ten hospitals located outside the Male' area.

With the assistance of UNDP and China, it has been determined that on-site training will be provided to healthcare professionals in order to ensure their safe and proficient use of the donated equipment.

The government regards this donation as a significant contribution to support frontline workers in their battle against these illnesses, and expresses gratitude to China for its ongoing assistance to the Maldives.
