Member Mohamed Waheed (Wadde) of the Ungoofaaru constituency has accused President Ibrahim Solih of using his connections to try and abolish former president and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s security.

While Member Wadde has made this claim, some of President Ibrahim’s loyal members of the Majilis have been discussing how high the fund provided by the state for Nasheed’s security is.

The raise in Nasheed’s security happened after the bomb attempt to end his life on the 6th of may, 2021. He had received numerous surgeries in ADK Hospital and was flown out to Germany to receive treatment after this incident.

Member Rozaina Adam of the Meedhoo constituency was the first person to bring up the high amount spent on Nasheed’s security. She had questioned whether Nasheed was an asset to the country, and whether Nasheed’s security was something the state had to spend on.

Member Hussain Shaheem (Andhun) of the South Henveyru constituency has repeated Rozaina’s words, and added that a large sum of money is spent on him and asked if this would be carried on for a long time.

This issue had been brought up in the People’s Majilis prior to this, by members of President Ibrahim’s faction members. It had been said that the security would have been lowered if Nasheed were to be unseated from the presidency of the Majilis.

Wadde mentioned in his tweet that he is very concerned regarding the campaign President Ibrahim is said to be launching within the last ten days of Ramadan with his connections to cut off Nasheed’s security.

He also said that locals are accusing the government of the bomb attack on Nasheed, during the last ten days of Ramadan two years ago, because of things done by President Ibrahim like this.

According to Nasheed, President Ibrahim, who had been a childhood friend, did not even check up on him after the bomb attack.

While the relationship between President Ibrahim and former President Nasheed is very strained, parliament members who are close to President Ibrahim have been verbally attacking Nasheed. Some members are talking about removing Nasheed from the parliament altogether.
